Charlie Matz

Charlie Matz works at the torch in borosilicate glass, and his page is where the sea creatures live. His sculptural decanters each hold a full bottle of wine inside an animal: the Jellyfish with trailing tentacles, the leaping Branzino, the Shark rising from a black base, the Crab. Beyond them are the Plasma King Crab, a borosilicate sculpture filled with reactive gas that lights up when plugged in; gilded glass sea urchins; goblets on stems of stacked colored beads with an implosion at the center; and the olive-topped stemless martini glass. Decanters and plasma work are made to order (allow 2–4 weeks); the small pieces ship from stock. Made at Ignite Glass Studios in Chicago, shipped double boxed nationwide.
